Radleians 35 - Dubs 5 (06/12/08)
As I get clonked on the head a lot during a game I can never remember enough to give a comprehensive match report but here are my recollections and thoughts.
Based on Radleians results so far we knew that it was going to be a challenging game. We had a excellent, focused warm up and everyone was clear on the responsibilities of the team.
The game started well and saw some early pressure from the Dubs. A few minutes of loose play resulted in two quick scores for the oppo out wide given a mismatch between our forwards and their pacey backs.
There followed a really good period of 20 minutes with some great team play from the Dubs and increasing pressure on the opposition line. Successive rucks and mauls saw us close to the line but we were denied by a questionable refs decision....not the last!!
We conceded out wide once more despite great defence and concerted attack. This was rewarded on the stroke of half time with a try in the corner for the Dubs.
The second half was more of the same. The Dubs clearly playing team rugby with great interplay in the forwards and backs. Our set piece began to dominate and we looked like a real unit rather than 15 individuals.
I think it is very fair to say that we just didn't get the rub of the green or the majority of the decisions. Two blatant forward passes saw the oppo ease away. Our heads didn't go down and we battled away for the rest of the game with no reward.
