Sudbury U16 49 Saffron Walden U16 0
Saffron Walden visited Sudbury for the first time on Sunday but left empty handed with the home side continuing their recent good form after wins against Romford,Brentwood,Thurrock and Shelford.Sudbury started the match in determined fashion with the forwards crashing the ball up the field winning quick ruck ball for the backs to run free. The first try came when Shaun Smith broke down the wing to cross under the posts. With the forwards dominating the line out and scrum winning ball against the head it was not long before Tom Summers scored his first of the day. Saffron Walden started to gain some territory but could not retain the possession as Shaun Smith again ran past the visitors defence to score his second try. Half time 21-0.
A mistake at the restart from Saffron Walden handed a scrum to Sudbury who went back on the attack with strong runs from forwards Dan Street, Josh Leeks supported by Sam Wakefield who was unlucky not to score being held up over the line. But it was not long before Shaun Smith crossed for his hatrick .At this point the home side began to ring the changes moving players into new positions and trying out new combinations. Jake Thurlow was next to score after the visitors lost control of the ball this was followed by more quick ball for the backs with Tom Summers scoring his second of the day before the final score from flanker Lewi Faulkner playing at centre crossed the try line to end the match 49-0. A great display from the forwards today who took control from the first whistle also a 100% kicking display from captain Tom Summers. Special thanks to Ben Goodchild and Luke Palmer-Randle for playing for the visitors well done lads. Man of the match performances from Dan Street and Josh Leeks.
Next up for Sudbury is the first round of the Suffolk Cup at home to Bury St Edmunds.
