BRAINTREE 17 SUDBURY 15
Sudbury lost their league game on Saturday at Braintree with the very last kick of the game after a close game with both teams trading point for point all game.
Braintree started well and opened the scoring with a penalty after fifteen minutes of play having kept Sudbury pinned in their own half and eventually catching them offside in front of the posts. From the restart Sudbury attacked and the home side went over the top in defence, Amenatape Ragamate opted to kick from 30 metres out to level the scores. The first Sudbury try came from a scrum just inside the 22 Tom Kelling fed out to Jim Lorking who made ground and passed to Jon Coone who ran round three defenders to score with what was to be, one of the best moves of the game. Braintree finished the half with a try after a period of pressure with several set pieces in the Sudbury 22 eventually breaking through the Sudbury defence.
Braintree had the best of the territory for the first half of the second period and took the lead with two penalty kicks from the boot of Chapman but Sudbury regained the lead with a try when the ball was passed with two long passes across the park but unfortunately I cannot credit the scorer but Ragamate converted for a one point lead with five minutes to play. The game ended controversially when Tico Tamani stripped the ball from a Braintree player at the tackle. The referee, who was on the wrong side and unsighted, appeared to listen to the home crowd and pinged Sudbury for hands in. Chapman who had kicked well all day made sure of the high pressure kick to take the game by two points.
Sudbury's next game is this Saturday 28th February when we meet our old rivals Bury St. Edmunds in the semi finals of the Suffolk Cup. Kick off will be 2.30 p.m.
