Chairman welcome in the new season
It is with great optimism that I warmly welcome you to
Stone Rugby Club for this new season. Our club prides itself in having a
reputation of encouraging new members and their families to take an active part
in the running of the club and this season will be no exception with plans for a
variety of social events throughout the year already being put in place.
As the representative of Stone RUFC on
the governing committee of Bibby Sports and Social Club, I am seeking to
continue to improve the facilities for the players and supporters during home
matches and for other social events. Stone RUFC is an affiliated member of the
sports club, which means that members of the rugby club can take advantage of
facilities available and the social events that are arranged. This season the
bar will be open during the home match for the supporters to use and it will
remain open after the match for us all. It is hoped that with the appointment of
the new Club Manager that arrangements will also be able to be made for improved
post match hot food for all the players. As some of you may know this has been
an issue of concern in the past that I hope will soon be resolved.
My thanks goes to last years committee
members for the hard work done and I welcome and applaud the new committee who
are already working extremely hard to raise the club profile within the
community and gain sponsorship from local businesses, in order for us to move
forward, grow and ensure our survival. It is hoped that we will soon again be in
a position where we can field two teams and perhaps develop our potential by
setting up a youth squad. All these objectives and more are achievable with the
right planning and enthusiasm from everyone associated with our club.
I would like to make special mention of
two players who have been an integral part of Stone Rugby Club for many years.
Ian Foster is a founder member who has been a positive force in developing the
strength and character of the club. He has served as chairman for several years
and has inspired many members to value what has been achieved. Dave Taylor has
been equally as influential. Dave has served on the committee for a number of
years and has led us onto the field as captain for more seasons than any other
member. It is significant that Dave has been awarded The David Jones Clubman of
the Year Award every year since the award was first made in 1999. This season
the committee showed their appreciation for these two members by awarding them
honorary lifetime membership of the club.
Finally, I welcome Simon Shiner as this
season's 1st xv Captain. Simon been and active member
of the club for several years and was Vice-Captain ynder
Matt Cooke last season. His experience as a player and club member makes him ideal for
the challenge of this job. I am sure that with your support, Simon and our new Vice
Captain Glyn Durston, will lead us into enjoying a successful season.
