Twickenham date for Stafford youngsters to top off best ever season
Stafford RFC under 12s have been invited to Twickenham to represent the region in a “Parade of Champions” at Guinness Premiership Finals Day (16th May) and will be presented to an anticipated 81,000 strong sell-out crowd at the home of English rugby.
The team were crowned regional champions after beating off fierce competition from across the midlands to win the prestigious Land Rover Premiership Cup at the tournament officiated by Premier Rugby and hosted by Leicester Tigers on April 5th. The previous week the team had jointly won the County Championship with Walsall (Stafford also won the title the previous year).
Stafford completed their record beating season by outscoring local rivals Wolverhampton by two tries to nil in a thrilling final in the traditional end of season Lichfield Festival on Sunday 26th April.
Boyd Smith, Head Coach of Stafford’s U12’s, said: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic season; we’ve had some great wins and the boys have really enjoyed themselves. We have a terrific squad of young players who make up two talented teams and all the players have contributed to the Club’s success.
“To win the Land Rover Premiership Cup in front of Leicester Tiger players means so much to the boys. It’s important for the young players and the sport to have the support from top players, our sponsors Stafford Land Rover and the boys’ parents who come along and support them every week – together we have great fun.”
The strength of the Stafford under 12s squad has been further recognised with five players invited to join the Schools of Rugby Development Programme.
