Youth Development - The Way Forward
26th September 2006
On Weds 20th September, Seaford Rugby Club hosted a
Schools Rugby Taster day at their club at the Salts Recreation
Ground.
The Junior Section, Seaford Storm, invited children from local schools to
participate in a one hour
introductory session. The RFU Community development officer planned and
organised the 1 hour sessions, with a number of different exercises and
activities.
The schools attendance was co-ordinated by
Michele Boby, the Schools Sports Liaison officer at Seaford Head, Over 150
children took part from Cradle Hill Primary School, Alfriston Primary,
Seaford Primary and Seaford Head. The enthusiasm of the children and their
teachers made for a really enjoyable and fun day.
Seaford Juniors would also like to invite any
children from 6-18 to come for a free session - they are held at the Salts
on a Sunday morning, starting at 10.00am

Juniors Update
The work
to get Seaford Junior section up and running is continuing well, with a good
team of volunteers actively working to make this happen in September
05.
Current Activities are:
Henry
Smith (a former Seaford Junior, currently playing at Lewes) is running TAG rugby
sessions in 3 of the Seaford Primary schools this term, for year 5 & 6
pupils. The take up has been fantastic, with over 70 pupils taking part in the
10 week programme.
Chris
Burns, Pete Joy and Jason Pheasant will all be helping out at the primary school
session towards the end of May.
In
addition, Seaford are opening the club at 10am on the mornings of Sunday
22nd, Sunday 29th May and June 5th to work with
Henry as he is selecting a Seaford boys team to take part in the Sussex Youth
Games.

We have
created the first draft of the Seaford Juniors welcome pack, covering all
aspects of junior membership, the club roles, responsibilities, child protection
etc. If you would like a copy, please contact Rob.
Rob Impey has taken over
the Child Welfare Officer role from Carrie Barton, and is able to process the

We are
aiming to apply for Active Sport funding for the start up of the junior section.
This is a national body for promoting sports clubs and community activity. The
plan of action will be drawn up with the Sussex RFU Rugby Development Officer,
and we will actively be going out to the local schools once the plan is
written.
The next
meeting is being held at the clubhouse, on Monday 16th May at 6.00pm
- if you would like to know more, please come along.
The
meeting will be looking at:
·
Plan for the TAG Rugby
·
Appointment of a Junior Section
committee and other roles - (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Fixtures,
Membership, Coaches, Helpers). The juniors will be run as a separate section of
the club, and it does need a form of structure putting in place.
·
Junior Membership Fees
·
Identity - get your thinking caps
on - what should the section be called - I'm fed up writing/saying
kids/youth/colts/junior rugby - lets think of name!! Email your ideas to
