Seaford II 61 V 5
Heathfield
Seaford seconds went into there first league
game of the new season buoyed by their first round cup win last week over
Hellingly.
The game started with Seaford gaining a 10 point advantage under league rule due
to Heathfield being unable to field a recognized front row. In temperatures
exceeding 21 dregs the game started up a fast pace and it not being long before
the first score for Seaford around the 10 Min mark when a well executed pass
inside from full back Kev Woodward, led to inside centre Chris Burns going over
for the first of two tries. Fly Half Alex Howe step up to convert. 17 -
0
The next Seaford score came from continued pressure of a weekend
Heathfield side. Allowing flanker D longstaff to cross the line unchallenged.
Howe narrowly missed the conversion. 22 -
0
At this point the flood gates seamed
to be opening for a rampant Seaford side. When
Scrum Half Caine went over for try
number 3. Again the conversion was narrowly missed by Howe. 27 -
0.
Two more well executed tries from the
back line resulted in Chris Burns crossing for his second. Soon followed by
Flanker Gavin Hutt, popping up to go over closed to the posts which was self
converted by Hutt. 39 -
0
The second half started well with a
brace of tries from substitute inside centre Jason Roberts. 49 -
0. After several replacements made at half time, flanker Paul Joy went
over from 20 meters to score Seaford's
8th try of the game. Which was successfully converted to bring the
score to 56 - 0?
Full credit must be given to
Heathfield who continued to battle hard regardless of the pressure or score.
This dogidness paid off as Heathfield scored a consolation try 10 mins from the
full time to bring the score to 56-5.
Seaford had one last visit into the
Heathfield 22 before the final whistle resulting in the man of the match for
Seaford Caine, going over a sparking solo effort from a ruck, running down the
left wing to bring the final score to 62 - 5 in Seaford's favor.
Seaford 2nd's are away next week
up against hard opposition in East Grinstead III's.

Heathfield II (15) VsSeaford II (12)
League
Seaford were without a first team fixture this week
but the seconds travelled to Heathfield for a league match. Unfortunately the
hosts were also without a first team game and in the course of the match rolled
on numerous first team substitutes which ultimately gave them the win in this
evenly fought contest.
Seaford took the early lead with Skipper Jason
Roberts crossing for a try, Dan Kristiansen converted and Seaford led by 7 points.
With both sides defending well points were not
free flowing but Heathfield were next on the score sheet with an unconverted
try. Seaford struck back immediately with a try
from Jason Morgan to take the score to 5-12.
In the second half Heathfield started to roll
on their subs and the game began to slip away from Seaford as they could not cope with the increased pace of
the Heathfield replacements.
Two late tries for the hosts wrapped the game
up with a 15-12 victory but Seaford can
certainly take the moral victory from this match.

Seaford II (13) V's East Grinstead III (0)
League
In Andy Gunstone's last ever game for the club
before he leaves for Australia the seconds also put on a
magnificent display and jumped from the bottom of the table to 8th
place and safety in the league with a great 13 - nil
victory.
In a man of the match performance Jason Morgan
scored both of Seaford's tries and number 8
come converted centre Spencer Pullinger did a Zinzan Brooke and added a drop
goal to take a well earned victory.
Being Andy's last game all the old boys came
out to support and the crowded touch line roared their support as Seaford took
on a much bigger pack and eventually wore them down to take the
victory.

Seaford II (17) VsRye
(15)
Seaford seconds has a tough league
clash against 3rd place Rye. Also at the Salts a very physical game saw
the home side come out on top by the narrowest of
margins.
Seaford's first try was awarded to the pack as a well
worked driving maul against bigger opponents was eventually grounded. Seaford then scored the second try of the match as Spencer
Pullinger charged down a clearance kick and won the race to ground the ball.
Danny Kristiansen converted and Seaford led by
12 points.
Rye began to find some form and before the break
tested the Seaford defence before finally
pulling a try back. 12-5.
The visitors came out for the
second half in determined mood and soon reduced the deficit to 2 points with
another try, 12-10. For the final twenty minutes the game kept the crowd
enthralled with both sides attacking and defending as if their lives depended on
it. It was Seaford who broke the deadlock and
Jason Morgan finished off a good move to score in the corner. Kristiansen missed
the conversion but Seaford now led 17-10.
Rye struck back and battered the Seaford line, finally with just 5 minutes remaining the
succeeded but missed the conversion leaving then 2 points adrift at
17-15.
A frantic closing saw Seaford hang on and take a well deserved
victory.

Seaford II (37) Vs
Hove III
(14)
Seaford seconds had a much more even fixture and a
great team performance saw them take a well deserved 31-14 victory.
On a very windy day Seaford played into the elements in the first half and were up 17-14 at the break. With the
wind behind them in the second half Ben Cox extended the lead with a penalty
before Seaford added another three tries to
seal the match.
Try scorers were Ben Cox 2, Jason
Pheasant 2, Simon Bates 1 and Dan Kristiansen capping a great performance with a
try of his own. Cox scored the penalty and also converted
two.

Uckfield II (7) V's
Seaford II (26)
League
Seaford 2nd's traveled away this week to
a waterlogged Uckfield pitch, with the purpose of getting back into the winning
way and improve there chance's of staying up in a challenging league. With
Skipper Jason Roberts away for the weekend, Richard Jones stood in as Captain
for the day,
As
the rain started to fall at the start of the game and continued throughout most
of the first half.
Seaford started strongly
winning good ball, and using it well to their advantage, against a tight and
well drilled Uckfield defence.
Ben
Cox scored Seaford's first of 4
tries on 20 mins after collecting
his own kick and chase from just inside the Uckfield 22. He then converted for a
7 point lead.
On
30mins Matt Evans scored the 1st of two personal tries after going
over from a 10yard rolling maul. Cox missed the conversion narrowly.
12-0
On
35 mins,
Seaford defence fell asleep to let the
dangerous looking Uckfield back line score a good converted try in the corner.
12-7
In
the second half,
Seaford kept good pressure up
on a tiring Uckfield defence. This produced Matt Evans second try which was
successfully converted by Cox. 19-7
With only 10mins before the final whistle, birthday boy Dan Kristiansen
went over to score after a great off-load from Danny Newby. Once again Cox
Converted for the final points of the game giving Seaford a fantastic
26-7 away win.

Seaford II (15)Vs Newick
(32)
The seconds also had a wind
dominated game as Newick visited for a league encounter. The game turned into a
scrappy affair as the visitors established a big first half lead including two
tries courtesy of forward passes missed by the referee.
Big Phil Sefton scored two tries,
to make his tally 4 in two weeks, and Skipper Jason Roberts added another but it
was not enough as Newick ran out 15-32 winners.

Plumpton (48) Seaford II (12)
The seconds also faced a tough task with an away trip to 2nd placed Plumpton.
Seaford were strong in the forwards and were on the score sheet first as the
pack pushed the ball over the line, Phil Sefton came up from the bottom of the
heap to claim the try. Danny Kristiansen converted. Seaford then lost Terry
Newby to a bad cut eye. Seaford battled well but the Plumpton backs were cutting
through the Seaford defence.
Seaford added another try through Phil Sefton to make his brace but it was
not enough as Plumpton finished with a 48-12 victory to show their league
position is no fluke.
Special mention must go to Steve Cripps who, having not played for 5 years
returned to the side and put in a "man of the match" performance.

Seaford II (27) V's Hove III (34)
League
The seconds were also in league action after a long lay off and were
unfortunate to come off second to a strong
Hove
side.
The hosts were 12 -6 up at half time with tries from Ben
Cox and Andy Nathan. Dan Kristiansen converted one. In the second half
Hove fought back and took the game to 34 - 27
to take the league points. Captain Jason Roberts went over first Seaford try
followed by Cox for his second of the day but the pick went to Phil Sefton as he
took clean lineout ball close to the
Hove line
and was unstoppable as he powered his way over.

Seaford II (31) Vs Uckfield II(23) Sussex
Vase
Seaford 1sts were left without a
game this week as Plumpton withdrew and an alternative fixture was not
available. This put
Seaford into the Semi final
of the Sussex Shield without playing a game as Midhurst had already pulled out
of the first round match.
This left the Seconds to take center stage at the weekend
with their knockout competition, the Sussex Vase, bringing a home draw against
Uckfield IIs.
In cold but perfect conditions Uckfield kicked off and in
the first scrum opted for unopposed scrums, unable to handle the power of the
Seaford 8. This was to prove to be to their
advantage as a young and mobile side, Uckfield's strength has always been with
their speedy backs and robbed
Seaford of the
advantage at restarts.
Uckfield were first on the score sheet when a loose ball
was kicked through and the Uckfield center was quickest to touch down. The try
was converted and the visitors led 0-7.
Seaford
took a while to get going but on 20 minutes used their forward power to drive up
the pitch with a series of good ball retention resulting in Simon Bates crossing
for a well worked try. Danny Kristiansen leveled the score with the
kick.
Uckfield responded with a penalty to re-take the lead,
7-10, but Seaford came straight back at them and Jason Morgan, playing in the
center, showed great strength to break three tackles in midfield and then find
himself free for the run in. Kristiansen converted and Seaford took the lead on 30 minutes.
With two minutes of the half remaining Uckfield added
another penalty to reduce the deficit to 14-13 at the break.
From the restart Uckfield came out looking determined to
take the game and soon set up a two man overlap which looked and a scored looked
to be on the cards. Andy Nathan however, had other ideas and a massive tackle
took man and ball and snuffed out the move.
Uckfield now had their heads up and a great move, started
behind their own line saw the ball passed between several players to sweep the
length of the pitch for the visitors to re-take the lead at
14-18.
Seaford then applied the pressure
and Andy Nathan added two superb tries wide out after good passing by the home
back line. Kristiansen converted one, probably the harder of the two and
Seaford led again 26-18. With 10 minutes to go
Uckfield narrowed the gap with a good break leaving the score at
26-23.
As the minutes ticked off, with both sides capable of
snatching the win, Danny Kristiansen broke from a scrum on the halfway line and
powered his way towards the line, he was tackled short but cleverly fed his
supporting players and with the Uckfield defence in disarray Seaford added the
final fry of the match to take a fine 31 - 23 victory which sees the through to
the next round of the Vase.

Seaford II (12) V's Plumpton
(26) League
The seconds were also at home and playing a top of the table side.
They lost 12 -26 with Richard Jones and Jason Roberts scoring the home sides
tries. A great performance from the home side's forwards set the platform but
the difference proved to be two break away tries from the visitors. Danny
Kristiansen converted one. Next week Seaford travel to Hove for a league
game.

Newick (24) V's
Seaford II (0)
League
Seaford 2nds also
traveled this week with Newick being the inhospitable hosts. With only 14 men
Skipper Jason Roberts request for the loan of one of the five Newick Substitutes
was turned down.
Although
Seaford battled well the
extra man allowed the hosts to score four unanswered tries in the first period
to lead by 24-0.
Seaford came out
for the second half looking a completely different team and dominated all phases
of play but were unable to break the score line. The pack in particular pushed
the Newick scrum backwards and stole several balls against the head, even though
they were one man down.
A deadlocked second half meant
Seaford lost 24-0 but a great team performance from all
with Jason Morgan gaining special praise for a magnificent game in the
centers.
Next Saturday the seconds host Crowborough II at the Salts. Kick
off 2.30pm.

Seaford II (21) V's Uckfield IIs
(5)
With players returning for injury the second team are
starting to find the strength they had last season. Uckfield II were the
unfortunate recipients as the
Seaford pack
dominated the game with some great rucking and driving mauls. Captain, Jason
Roberts got back to try scoring with two well taken tries and Colin Shearing
added
Seaford's third. Dan Kristiansen had a
perfect day with the boot to convert all three with a 100% record. Special
mention must go to Andy Walker, coming out of retirement, once again, and
putting in a fantastic performance in the front row.

Seaford IIs (5) Vs Haywards Heath III
(27)
Seaford hosted a very physical
Haywards Heath side in the league on Saturday and gave them a stiff opposition
but were unable to overcome a very well drilled side.
Seaford scored the opening try
with a great forward drive resulting in Steve Curwen diving over in the corner
for a well worked try.
Seaford's visiting
Fijians Torro and Vooky get a special mention for both their physical presence
and their wonderful running with ball in hand. Hopefully their influence will
rub off on some of the younger members of the squad.

Seaford Seconds playing with 14 men and without a front row were forced

Seaford IIs (12) Vs Horsham
III (48)
The seconds started their league program on Saturday and
were unfortunate to come up against a very strong Horsham third team containing
several members of last years promoted first team.
A battling performance from the hosts resulted in a 48-12
loss with Rob Hopkins and Skipper Jason Roberts scoring tries and Dan
Kristiansen converting one.
Phil Austin had a great game on the wing and did not miss a
single tackle in the match. Shaun Tutt also made a comeback and put in a great
performance for half an hour.
Next Saturday the Seconds are also away to East Grinstead.

their heals this week. Next week they entertain Horsham III at the Salts
Recreation Ground. Kick off 3pm.
3rd September 2005
Seaford IIs (29) Vs
Eastbourne III
(0)
The seconds, also under a new skipper and try scorer
extraordinaire, Jason Roberts went one better then the 1st fifteen in
scoring 5 tries to nil in a 29-0 victory over Eastbourne III's at the Salts
recreation ground.
Andy Nathan scored the first try, soon followed by Karl
Matthews. The next two tries scored before the break were a family affair and
first Father, Karl and then Son Danny Kristiansen crossing the line with Danny
converting one to lead 22 - 0 at the break.
The skipper, Jason Roberts, kept up his scoring form in the
second period with the only points of the half. Dan Kristiansen converted to see
the final score stand at 29-0 and a great double for the club.
Man of the match must surely go to converted center Rob
Hopkins, playing his first game at prop he put in a storming performance and
looks as though he could go a long way in his new position.
Next Saturday the seconds have a tough friendly fixture
away to Sun Alliance in Horsham.
