Easter Sevens
Easter means only one thing at the Salcombe Rugby Club...a massive weekend of entertaining rugby, a chance to catch up with old friends and the likelihood that a fair few pints will be sunk!
Our programme kick's off on Good Friday when the Salcombe President's XV challenge Salcombe Exiles to do their worst. There's a lot of pride at stake so you can be sure that neither team will give in lightly.
Saturday sees the 1st XV entertain a visiting side. Of recent years a combined team of young men from Pewsey Vale RFC & the Wolverhampton Wizards have taken up the gauntlet and we will be welcoming them both once again this year.
Having whetted every bodies appetite for rugby action over the previous two days, we save the biggest event for Sunday. What better than a fast paced Seven's Tournament? Without wishing to sound like we are blowing our own trumpet, this has become a well-known and popular event and unfortunately we always have to disappoint a few teams. Registration for 2007 is now closed.
The day will start at 11am with 12 teams divided into 4 pools. Heats will quickly progress to the Semi-finals. There will then be a short break when we will have the pleasure of watching some of our young stars of the future take part in a Mini Tag Rugby game.
Then take your position for the Easter Seven's Final. Some years ago we were very fortunate to have Sir Clive Woodward present medals and cups to the winners. However we cannot guarantee that he will be able to take time from his busy schedule again this year. Normally this duty is performed by our President, Mr Paul Roberts, who will be happy to sign autographs during the afternoon!
There will be a beer tent, BBQ, tea, coffee and snacks available all day so if you are new to the area or just visiting, why not come over and see what it's all about.
