A narrow victory for the NK Girls 17 - 15
Leicester Forest travelled to North Hykeham several players short and as has become the custom this season the hosts loaned a number of players to the opposition to play the game at 13 a side. Both sides had a number of East Midllands players in their squads and the visitors also included England U19 squad member Emily Scarratt at outside centre.
NK seemed a little daunted by Scarratt's presence and two early tries by Leicester one by East Midlands fly half Nathasha Jones and the other by Scarratt both unconverted did little to calm their nerves.
The visitors took a deserved ten point lead into the interval. In the second half NK came back strongly scoring two tries, both by centre Mica Grossett. With one of the tries converted by Lizzie Cannon NK had turned around a ten point deficit into a two point lead.
Just when NK thought that they had the victory in the bag, they let Leicester back into the game. Poor decision making by the NK backs trying to run the ball out of their own 22 rather than putting boot to ball allowed an interception try to be scored by Jones. Crucially as it turned out the conversion was missed.
NK rallied and in the final couple of minutes prop Sarah Swan broke three tackles on the left hand side of the pitch to score in the corner. With the conversion missed NK took a narrow 17 - 15 lead. They managed to see the game out but not without having to withstand intense pressure on their line with a couple of 5 metre scrums having to be defended to deny Leicester a winning score.
