North Kesteven Girls Under 17's took on strong opposition from Kettering in their latest match.
Both sides had a considerable number of East Midlands representative players in their line ups for what is usually one of the toughest club games of the season in the East Midlands Region.
The game started badly for NK losing fly half Vicky Fleetwood with an ankle injury in the opening minutes of the game. Kettering capitalised on this to score an early convrted try.
Undaunted by the set back NK stepped up the pace and halfway through the first half reduced arrears after a fine flowing move with offloads through the forwards releasing centre MIca Grossett who outflanked the Kettering defence to score in the corner. With the conversion missed Kettering took a slender two point lead into the half time break.
The second half was an equally tense hard affair with no quarter given by either side. Kettering extended their lead with a brace of tries one of them being converted to lead 19 - 5.
NK were now determined to make the next score and spent the final minutes of the game camped in the Kettering 22 metres area. From the final play of the game Hannah Lewin crashed over from a short range tap penalty in front of the posts. With the conversion made good by Zoe Wells NK reduced the score to 12 - 19. The match was a fine advert for East Midlands Girls Rugby which was enjoyed by a crowd of around 150.
The next game is at home to Market Deeping on the 21st January with a 2pm kick off
