Mixed results for the North Hykeham Girls at Melbourne
North Hykeham's U15 and U18 teams travelled to Derbyshire to play Melbourne in their second games of the 2007/2008 season.
Both North Hykeham squads were without several East Midlands players which gave the opportunity for other squad members to shine and make selection for next weeks game at Worcester a headache for the coaching staff.
The U15's lost by 22 points to 10 with the points scorers for North Hykeham being Carla Clubb and Rachel Jones. All credit must go to this fairly inexperienced line up who never gave up and tackled as if their lives depended upon it.In the end however the greater experience of the hosts shone through as they ran out deserved winners, by scoring 4 tries and a conversion to the two North Hykeham touchdowns.
In the Under 18's game, North Hykeham recorded a confidence boosting 15 points to 5 win. Tries for the visitors were scored by Mica Grossett, Karina Wormington and Abbie Huggett. The hosts replied with a single try by East Midlands player Anna Mac Donald. North Hykeham deserved their victory as they were the better side but much credit should go to Melbourne who have improved since the teams last met and provided a much stiffer challenge than in previous meetings.
