Club Middlesex ‘A’ Team Match Report
On a hot sunny afternoon Surrey started strongly, particularly in the forwards, getting the better of the early exchanges. However, the game remained close with the teams exchanging penalties before an excellent break by the Club Middlesex captain Harry Lightfoot-Brown resulted in a try, which was converted by Connor Murphy.
At this stage, the home team began to get on top playing a high tempo style of play, which began to stretch the Surrey defence. Fly half Akira Takenaka went over for another Club Middlesex try leaving the home team 15-3 up at halftime.
No sooner had the second half started when a dropped pass allowed Connor Murphy to score for Club Middlesex and then convert his own try. At 22-3, the game appeared over but at this stage, the home team appeared to take their foot of the gas and allow Surrey back in the match. Some excellent determined play enabled Surrey to score two tries and convert one of them.
At 22-15, the game again seemed in the balance. However the Club Middlesex centre Ryan Bifield, bravely returned to the field after taking an earlier knock, and blasted through to score a superb try to seal the game for the home side.
Club Middlesex’s day was made complete by the ‘B’ team also winning 19-14 they recovered from being two early scores down to fight back and gain a terrific win.
