Presidents Report to Members - 2005/06
Dear Member
It is of great pleasure to be able to report that 2005-2006 has been a marked improvement both on and off the pitch. After the disappointment of the previous years, along with us struggling to field a full fifteen players each week, it is satisfying to be able to report that we are now a team being spoken about throughout the Sussex RFU. We have had an excellent season compared to our normal standards and only just lost out on promotion to Sussex 2 East. Unfortunately we struggled for a short period earlier in the year but still achieved a success rate of 17 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses. This compares well to the fact that we only played 22 games when we would normally play around thirty. I can only imagine the success we could of achieved if all games were fully attended. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all players, social members and support staff on this achievement.
Due to the recognition within the Sussex RFU for our achievements, we have now been moved across to Sussex 3 Central. This is considered to be the hardest league at our level and I take it as a compliment to have been put within this category. We must treat this as an adventure into adversity and be fully committed if we are to emulate our performances last season. I must agree that we are to partake greater distances of travelling to arrive at our fellow league members, but we have to play, and beat the best teams to become the best. I have every confidence in us for the new season and urge all members to support Littlehampton RUFC so that we can achieve this target.
An important development over the last year has been the establishment of contact within our local community school to prime their U16's to be a part of our new colt's team. Our aim is to be registered before season 2007-2008 when the colt's can then partake in games across Sussex helping grass roots rugby take a foothold in Littlehampton. From September we will assist in coaching the senior school teams and guide them in the direction towards senior level rugby.
Another very important development in recruitment for the senior team is over the last week or two, we have made contact with Worthing College who have a rugby academy. We are forming a partnership with them and aim to recruit an average of 5 - 10 players every season. These players are aged between 18 and 19 yrs but have the hunger to play at senior level like us. This is something we are looking forward to, and seeing the team(s) progression and growth over the years to come.
Commercially, the club has never been busier and ongoing expansion is always being investigated with regards to training facilities, match facilities and team merchandise. We are looking into all aspects of club with the intention to promote ourselves across the local vicinity to gain the identification we deserve as a club.
I must express the clubs gratitude to all our sponsors and supporters, The Tower Club, Opulent Electronics, Michael Cook Associates and Ash Joinery Ltd. We rely on local businesses to balance our accounts and wish to thank all for there ongoing support.
Lastly I must thank my management colleagues and committee members for all their support and hard work during the year.
It is against this background that I thank you all for you're past support and invite you to renew your membership.
May we have a successful 2006-2007?
Regards
Mark Quinney
