Littleborough 2nd RUFC 34pts v Marple 2nd RUFC 10pts FRIDAY 2/4/10
On Good Friday Boro 2s entertained Marple 2s and it was important that Boro try and get a positive result to get them away from the wrong end of the League Table, fortunately they achieved just that with an exhilerating Rugby performance not seen before by this Team and one which the Littleborough Spectators were overjoyed to watch.
Right at the start Boro gave indication of their intent and D.Kearns was soon making his mark on the game,as was D.Lord,Captain for the Day,giving out good vocal communication whilst leading from the front in his own game. Their visitors tried to match Boro but with I.Murgatroyd at his best, supported by J.Land and J.Clegg, Boro were able to get plenty of ball possession and mount continuous attacks via their Forwards. Then with halfbacks B.Joiner and N.Martin effectively controlling the threequarters Boro put on a terrific combined attacking front and soon D Kearns went over the Try line for the first of his Two Tries with N.Martin adding the extra points along with Penalty conversions he made during the game. Senior Colts player in the forwards,J.Barnes did well in the front row whilst J.Bex ,his partner, topped his performance with a fine try and as expected B.Joiner showed his terrific pace ,making a break and out stripping the cover defence to score a try and make his contribution. Perhaps the highlight of the match was when I.Murgatroyd made one of his number of breaks ,drew his defender and then slipped a great pass to his winger,C.Chaplin to finish the move with a great Try. The smile on veteran I.Murgatroyds face was a joy to behold! One other noteable performance came from Hooker,M.Fletcher who was at the hub of most rucks and mauls and secured plenty of ball for Boro, who as a Team deserved this win.
Littleborough RUFC 2nd XV 24pts v Sale RUFC 2nd XV 3pts SAT 27 / 02 / 10
Kicking off on time, slight signs of rain in the air and Boro playing first half up the ground, late player changes saw S.Shepherd at scrum half and N.King at fullback. First to attack were the visitors on the right wing but attempting to kick the ball deep into Boro,s 22metres they kicked over the dead ball line , then Boro took over with a good break and run by D.Kearns who fed K.Hill in support for him to pass inside to M.Forden to cross the try line , converted by S.Shepherd. Apart from when Boro made the break all the play was in their own half with constant pressure from the visitors , then a penalty was awarded to Boro which helped them to clear their lines. Suddenly a surge forward by D.Lord then on to M Forden followed with a kick across to the rght wing for D.Kearns to collect , gather up speed and run half the length of the pitch to touch down under the Posts for a super individual try , S.Shepherd adding further points. Back came the opponents again, camped in Boro,s half but couldn,t find a way through to score, until almost on halftime Boro were penalised for coming in at the side at a ruck and the visitors got points on the board by converting the penalty. Nothing really changed at start of second half Boro again defending in their own half till a break by M.Murgatroyd then passing on to N.King who ran at pace to the try line but was tackled and held up before he could ground the ball , possibly a pass by him out to his .supporting right winger, A.Wayne may have been a better option. At least Boro was now turning the tables and keeping play in their opponents half where J.Clegg was strong in attack and defence and it wasn,t long before M.Forden made a great charge forward resulting in ball finding it,s way into N.Kings hands who made no mistake with the try this time, no conversion. The Match continued with Boro mounting one attack after another to almost the final whistle , when again that man N.King received the ball around the centre line to out pace everyone to cut through the defence to score a further great individual try, no conversion. Pressed close by the points scorers the Man of the Match went to J.Clegg for his back line leadership, his strong defence and experience.
