Congratuations
Northampton Saints hosted the graduation ceremony for the successful candidates of the first ever RFU Leadership Academy. Twenty candidates have been awarded a special fleece and a certificate of achievement.
Peiter Brouwer of Lichfield RFC was asked what he would say to future club leaders about the academy "I definitely would recommend it. It is a great way to build on your strengths and help eliminate your weaknesses. It helps to develop your leadership skills."
Special guest, Keith Barwell, said "This is a fantastic, exciting time for rugby and clubs need leaders to steer us through that change. Rugby Clubs are successful because of their leader who has a goal and plan and gets other people involved. Watching my grandchildren play on cold, wet Sundays at Towcester, I know the hard work that volunteers do for community rugby clubs. Having professional staff at Saints, makes my job easier than the challenge faced by volunteer club leaders in the grassroots of the game. I'm delighted that the Leadership Academy was founded in the Midlands at the birthplace of rugby."
Carole Thelwall-Jones, CB Volunteer Manager praised the candidates, "Rugby benefits enormously from the time, enthusiasm and expertise given by club leaders. I'm especially thankful that to the candidates for giving their commitment to the academy. My wish is that our first `graduates' will encourage others to join the next Leadership Academy starting in October 2006."
