NEW THREE YEAR SPONSORSHIP DEAL ANNOUNCED
Lancashire County Rugby and Barclays Commercial are delighted to announce a new three-year sponsorship deal of the County's newest competition, the Barclays Mini Festival Cup.
At the very last meeting of the Sportsmatch Panel, the Government agency established to encourage British business to invest in grassroots sport, Barclays Commercial’s interest in the new series of Lancashire Mini Festivals for Under 11s and Under 12s was recognised.
With informal triangular fixtures played regularly throughout the county, Lancashire has arranged a series of ‘festival’ days to take place during the season.
Each club will play in two such events, the outcome of which will determine the participants in the Lancashire's first ‘BARCLAYS’ Minis Triangular Festival, to be held at Blackburn on Sunday, 30th March 2008.
Jeremy Smith, Regional Director of the Barclays Commercial Finance Team, based in Manchester, is very pleased to be involved with the youngsters’ rugby matches.
“Barclays Commercial is delighted to support and invest in new ideas. Lancashire approached us with an innovative structure to develop competitive rugby for the ‘mini’ age group, emphasising the traditional fun and family atmosphere.”
Barclays Commercial Bank provides relationship banking to 151,000 larger and medium business customers in the UK (£1m to £1bn turnover). Jeremy Smith and his Corporate Finance team provide local business with asset-based lending – a form of finance which allows businesses to borrow money based on the value of the range of assets that it has, from debtors to stock, property and/or plant and machinery items.
County Treasurer, Robert Grant, is very appreciative of the two companies’ involvement.
“We have set ourselves a long term-aim to build lasting and productive relationships with major commercial partners. Barclays Commercial is now a key member of the ‘Club Lancashire’ team.”
THE COMPETITION
The team at the top of each group of three is drawn to host the respective triangular fixtures. At each age group, six teams will play off for the 2007/08 trophy on Sunday 30th March, the top of each the three 'conference' areas, East, West and North, plus the three next best sides, based on results, tries scored and - if required - the results of matches between equally ranked sides, or failing that the results against 'common' opposition.

| FESTIVAL DAY |
Sunday 30th March |
Lancashire’s Under 11s & 12s
BARCLAYS Mini Festival Cup
The inaugural Under 11s and Under 12s County Competition begins with the publication of the 2007/08 draw. Following a regional knock-out based on three local ‘conference’ areas it concludes with an end-of-season Festival, on Sunday 30th March.
Club fixture secretaries are requested to agree between themselves an appropriate date to hold the triangular series of matches. For obvious reasons, these dates should be arranged earlier, rather than later, avoiding deteriorating weather.
The structure and rules are intended to be very simple: an extension of the Under 12s’ & Under 11s’ calendar, playing the normal Continuum rules (i.e. now at Under 12s with 6 forwards, refer to the Lancashire or RFU websites). Other than for the Festival itself, team sheets will not be required, but Youth Registration cards should be shown and agreed by the respective clubs before the match commences. Squads for the triangular stages will not be limited, but a selection will have to be made for the Festival, probably to a maximum of 18.
Depending on the numbers applying, (1) there may sides drawn with a BYE or a Preliminary Round, worked on either a one-off game or on a round-robin basis, to determine the places for Round One in the respective ‘conference’ areas. The winners (to be played by Sunday, 25th November) will progress to Round Two (to be played by Sunday, 16th March) whilst the runners up will progress to the alternate, secondary element of the Festival on the same day.
Alternatively, depending on numbers, (2) the matches on the two dates may be combined to provide the necessary sides to progress to the Festival.
Applications have been acknowledged on the website, as will the competition’s progress through the season. Success in this event will be reflected in the seeding for the Junior Challenge Under 13s’ draw for 2007/08.
All Coaches, Managers and other supervising adults involved are expected to have been CRB cleared, and all participating players must be registered under the club’s name with the Youth Registrar and cleared to allow photographs to be taken during the competitions, celebrating the performances of the players involved (by signing the necessary clearance).
