For the second match of the Canadian tour Mark Nelson took the opportunity to blood some of the younger players in the game against Niagara Thunder. On a hot and humid evening Niagara kicked off and Lancashire were penalised for holding. Gordon missed with his kick.
Both teams found it difficult to adjust to conditions and an over-officious referee. The visitors eventually put together several forward drives and the ball was moved across the backs for Kerfoot to dive in at the corner. Bailey converted.
Within five minutes Niagara equalised when Wilson charged down and collected a clearance kick to score under the posts, Gordon converting. Bailey completed the first half with a penalty to give the visitors a 10-7 lead.
The second period was one of Lancashire forward domination, with Planchant again catching the eye, well supported by Banks, Beaumont, Wilks and Du Plessis. Niagara moved the ball away from the contact areas and were unlucky not to score on one occasion.
Bailey opened the scoring of the second half with a dropped goal and kicked two further penalties to give Lancashire a hard fought victory.
Coach Mark Nelson said "this victory over a very strong Canadian Super League team was a credit to everyone involved, particularly the young players who made a massive contribution.
The balance of youth and experience shows the benefit of touring to the future of Lancashire rugby".
