This was not a bad performance by any means, but in a side missing two key playmakers from the last outing against Cumbria, the white shirts of Yorkshire was the last colour that the Lancashire coaching staff wanted to see. Yorkshire regained the ‘Dick Endell’ trophy after an impressive display, in which they dominated some, but not all areas of the game.

The red rose was under pressure from the early moments, and the inevitable try came from the day’s outstanding player, George Elliott. Yorkshire’s outside centre ran in under the posts to set up a simple conversion for Christian Georgiou.
A combination of indiscipline, which caused undue problems in the previous game, and an inablilty to control play in the midfield gave Yorkshire the advantage throughout most of the first half. Elliott added to his sixth minute try with another in the twentieth.
With ten minutes to the interval, after a bullocking drive from Lewis McKay and then skipper Andrew Dauncey almost making the line, Lancashire came within a whisker of a try. The ball was driven over the line; Yorkshire forced it back and then cleared their lines as the scrum was awarded in their favour.
The white rose blossomed with further penalty awards, but when over-complicated defence seven minutes from half-time presented Yorkshire with another chance, Chris McTurk took his opportunity at the end of an extended three-quarter line.
David Markham and James Morris were both scrapping for the ball in successive lineouts just short of the Yorkshire line, but again, with Lancashire ending the half on top, the ball was cleared to the sound of the half-time whistle.
Lancashire shuffled the pack for the second-half, and Louis Singleton regained a measure of control, but Yorkshire’s centre pairing of Elliot and Sam Stuart continued their relentless attack. Kelham O’Hanlon impressed at fly-half, whilst James Mawdesley again staked his claim to start next time out.
John Pape took three points from a penalty five minutes into the second half, but that was to be the last score.
Yorkshire had one memorable attack in the second period, Elliott Brierley faced by his opposite number, 15: Pape, and who brought down the full back after a scything run. Ross O’Neill traded tackles with Elliott, and with time running out, George Skofic - who had replaced the bandaged Tom Leith - almost grabbed a score, as did Alasdair Sutherland.
Lancashire, who enjoyed a much improved second-half, deserved a try to reward their endeavour; Yorkshire richly deserved their victory. A fine match.
