Mark Nelson to Chair the Lancashire Coaching Committee...
Following the inaugural meeting of the Lancashire Coaching Development Committee, I am delighted to act as Chairman for our group. We have a great cross section of people on the committee and we are committed to developing the quality of opportunity for the Counties Coaches working across the board in all age ranges and levels of the game.
It is our intention to champion the Coach Development Courses that already are in place and establish additional sessions designed to increase knowledge at the relevant level for our Coaches. The Qualification Award Courses are largely catered for through the work of RFU Professional Staff. We see our role as working “ between” levels to expand to expertise and depth of understanding that our Coaches possess, thus improving the level of coaching that the players in the County receive.
We are also looking to create clusters of clubs that can pool their Coaches together for sessions and workshops in order to cut down on the travelling for people. In other words, we intend to take these excellent courses around the county and encourage Clubs to groups together and share ideas and develop their knowledge.
As usual Lancashire is at the forefront of embracing National initiatives and the action plans for the structure of the Constituent Bodies includes focusing heavily on Coach Development, and we have quality people on our committee who will push this initiative forward.
We also intend to run a Coaching Conference in 2010 and are considering the possibility of creating a Coach mentoring scheme. We hope that the structure we are putting in place will be utilised by the Coaches in the County and that they reap the rewards of our initiatives.
