Competition in the National RU Under 17 Knockout competitions produced some very good rugby and a couple of tight finishes, particularly at in the Cup and Bowl ties at York and Sedgley Park respectively.
At Clifton Park, Sandbach claimed a place in the Northern semi-finals on the ‘away side’ ruling after finishing level with their hosts at 5-5, while fate was even more harsh on Sedgley Park’s youngsters.
They were given ground advantage by Leeds club Yarnbury because their pitch was unfit, but found this to be to their detriment when the game finished at 10-10 with tries being equal, Yarnbury advancing on the ‘away side’ rule.
The Northern semi-finals of the competition are scheduled for Sunday week (March 11), with the regional final on March 25. The national semi-finals take place on April 15 with the National Finals Day set for May 6.
