Lancashire push the boat out for National U19 Sevens anniversary
Lancashire County RFU will be in party mode during the next few weeks as the Red Rose men celebrate their 125th Anniversary and one of the beneficiaries of this historic season is the National Under 19's County Seven-a-Side Tournament to be staged at Eccles RFC on Sunday, May 20, 2007.
This tournament reaches a milestone of its own this year in that has reached its Silver Jubilee and is being staged for the 25th time.
First conceived and organised by the Cheshire RFU, the Wheatsheaf Sevens, as it was initially christened, is being organised by Lancashire for the first time and in this season of twin celebrations, they are anxious to make the event the biggest and best in the competition’s long and proud history.
The event has added piquancy in that Lancashire are defending the title they won last year at Syston in Leicestershire.
"We are really looking to make this tournament a very special event in this special season and we want as many county teams as possible to take part," says Jon Kitchen, one of the organising committee.
