Lakenham Hewett Ladies play their last home league game of the season this Sunday versus Vale of Lune (2.30 ko). The last time they met back in November it was a classic game of two halves. Lakenham were down 23-0 at half time, but some simple, confident rugby in the second half saw them only concede one further try, and that was in the dying seconds when an injury in the centres let them breach the defensive line.
Having had 4 weeks off the Norwich side have been training hard and are relishing the challenge the Lancashire side will pose. Vale of Lune are the only team to have beaten league leaders Darlington this season, and with a large park and Amazonian backs, will certainly provide tough opposition. Lakenham are hoping to improve on their performance against Carlisle, which although disappointing in some areas, showed moments of outstanding play. They are able to field a strong squad, welcoming back Ang Wadham, Wendy Masters and Jacqui Quilliam from illness, injury and unavailability respectively. Wadham and Masters will start in the centres with Kate Hodgkinson moving to the wing. The half backs and pack remain unchanged. But this will be game for the whole squad, and the replacements Quilliam, Binks and Dailey will provide a depth of experience, strength and speed, the latter two showing exceptional strength in running and tackling in the last game.
Team: Manhertz, Glanville, Wadham, Masters, Hodgkinson, Pigeon, Byrne; Opie, Furniss, Sayce, Kightley, Lussignea, Travis, Simpson, Watson (c); Quilliam, Dailey, Binks.
