Barnet Borough Adult Team of the Year
Earlier in the seaon the second team, affectionately known as the "Super Twos" enjoyed success off the field at the prestigious Barnet Celebrating Sports Awards. Nominated for the adult team of the year award, Hendon were extremely proud to have been short listed and felt even more privileged to be considered when looking at the exceptionally high standard of individuals and groups nominated for some of the other awards that evening. It was, therefore, a fantastic honour and achievement to be named as overall winners of the award for Adult team of the year.
This season's captain, JP Shanahan, remarked "It's a fantastic reflection of all the hard work put in over the years by not just the players, who are and always have been outstanding, but by the club as a whole. I wish that Laurence Lennon, who resurrected the 2nds after some poor years, had been able to be here to see this tonight but work commitments have kept him away. We have come a long way in a reasonably short time and that's due to the commitment, passion and spirit of all involved, and to be recognized for that on the same bill as Olympic gold medalists and top ranked national champions, is really very special indeed."
Hendon President David Gershlick was equally proud, adding "The effort put in has been fantastic, we are and always have been, a very welcoming club to all abilities, ages and nations and are extremely proud that last years Super Twos Cup final winning team fielded 14 different nationalities in a squad of 18. It's that foundation that has seen the Twos get to where they are today and it's great to see them sharing the awards ceremony with so many other outstanding young sports people who have also achieved so much. Who knows, perhaps some of the younger nominees here tonight will go on to be future Hendon players."
