September to December 2008
The Seconds who lost narrowly in their first Merit Table game against Enfield Ignations have since then come on strongly and for some time headed the Merit Table, although we had played one more game than the second placed club. When not playing Merit Table games they have won handsomely in a couple of friendlies and their next two games will also be friendlies. On the 6th December they were due to play at home in a return to Merit Table action with a game against St Albans. But the opposition cried off late and so we were awarded the match 25-0. Then despite a handsome wins 43 - 3 against OMTs and then Verulamians 39 - 7 they were knocked off top spot by Ruislip winning their game in hand and that is where they stay.
After the OMTs game Team Captain Paul (JP) Shanahan said:
" We have worked hard to get to the position we are in now and with extra effort we will reap the rewards. There are 4 games left in the Merit Table and it will be a tough run into March. As I said previously, no-one will cry off against us, WE are the team to beat, WE are the scalp that all the other teams want to take, WE are the ones that have proved we are greater than the sum of our parts, and cannot only mix it up in this league but are poised to win it."
"I am very proud to be your skipper and thank you for your continued support, belief and commitment. Let's enjoy the break and make the effort to get to training in the New Year. (Make it a resolution), let's maintain the momentum, meet Verulamians head on and make sure we keep our eyes on the prize and the fire in our belly."
