SIX MONTH UNBEATEN RECORD TAKEN
Hendon, unbeaten since losing to Wasps Amateurs in September lost their last League match of the Season 10 points to 8 to Old Grammarians, who thereby secured promotion as runner-up in the League. Old Grammarians had a 100% home record and were determined to maintain it in a nail biting encounter where the lead changed throughout the match. Hendon were down within four minutes when a misfielded kick let OGs in under the posts. With the OGs scrum having the better of a depleted Hendon pack the superior Hendon backs were never allowed into their stride. Ben Linale and Wojtek Walowicz came close to scoring and Hendon missed a long range penalty. Kosy Mutuma was then yellow carded but Hendon held their line and this time Ben Linale made no mistake with another long range penalty. On the stroke of half time Eric Butler found the gap and slick passing from Lee linale put Wojtek over in the corner. The conversion missed and so at half time Hendon were 7point to 8 in the lead.
In the second half playing up the slope Hendon were pinned back in their own half by the OGs kicking game and with both sides defending well another score looked improbable from either side. OGs then had a breakthrough which would have been a certain try but for the last ditch tackle of full back John Paul Cremin. However, the referee saw an offence and awarded OGs the penalty which decided the match.
