1993

On this day a match was held in memory of Seamus Lavelle who had died on the pitch at the end of the previous season. he had been at Hendon since he was a Colt and had played alongside many of his schoolfriends in our First Xv. He also proudly played for London Irish 1st XV.
A Hendon XV played in Copthall Stadium in front of nearly 3,000 people against a side put together with the help of another Hendon man, Dick Best, who was part of the England coaching set-up at the time. The team was studded with then current England stars and led by Will Carling.
Another key guest was Richard Bowles, who just a few weeks after Seamus' death severely damaged his neck in a game at home against Finchley. Thankfully, after spending months in a support frame he made a full recovery but his playing days were over.
