Gainsborough Players and guests gathered at the Weston Rooms on Saturday 30th May to hold there end of season presentation evening
Following a traditional format Players and partners met for the annual dinner and followed the meal with the presentation of the awards. Prior to the presentation club captain Vernon Goude praised the players efforts over the past season, encouraged them all to reassemble next season and build on what had been achieved so far, The captain thanked all in attendance and made special mention of the help he had received from Harry Sampson, club coach and Andre Russell club chairman along with vice captains Paul Hooton and Nathan Mitchell. Vernon thanked Kate Bullivant and Rachel Humphrey for their support throughout the year and to Viv and Shiela at the Peacock who have continued to provide a meeting point and support the rugby club throughout the season.

At the end of the presentations a special award was made by the committee to Club Chairman Andre Russell. Andre joined the club in season 1991, he went on to captain and organise the second team, he went on to run all club affairs as the club went through a very difficult time, always supporting and developing and recruiting players and members, he organised social activities for the players and involved himself in fund raising. He went on to captain the All Blacks and took over the chair when he finished as captain. Andre is still chairman and a first team player. The above is only a brief summary of all the work done by Andre, GRUFC wanted to recognise this contribution and awarded life membership to Andre, a silver salver was presented by president Snowy Godfrey.
