Gainsborough Rugby Club has lost a big larger than life character following the death of Paul Bell last week.
Paul was a stalwart player from the 70’s to the 90’s for the club, a second row who was guaranteed to win you line out ball, one way or another. Paul nurtured and brought local players through; he learnt all the songs and was always available to lead the singing.
Paul’s singing and social attributes along with his skills on the rugby field led to his popularity wherever the Gainsborough club travelled and there are many clubs who have mentioned him this last week.
Paul held offices, Captain, Chairman, Social Secretary within the club and outside of it even after he had ceased playing he was our communication with ex players and others who had need of information all things Gainsborough Rugby.
Paul was an ideas man always wanting to try something different, to grab us a little more attention, publicity or to steel a march on the opposition if we were playing.
Characters like Paul are in short supply these days, all within Gainsborough Rugby Club as with all his other friends and family will miss him greatly.
Gainsborough Rugby Club will be recognising his passing at the end of this season and the beginning of next with memorial activities, our thoughts are very much with his wife and two sons at this moment in time.
God Bless you Paul Bell.
