Gainsborough RUFC have at long last and following a lot of hard work by Mike Doody and Lesley Rollings both teachers at TVA started training youngsters from the school.
Tuesday 3rd March saw the first training and coaching session, it was a wet and windy night but it did not detract from the enthusiasm of the youngsters and numbers increased for the second session on Tuesday 10th , pictures show the lads being put though their paces by Mike Doody, Andy Dean and Vernon Goude along with a squad photo.
All at Gainsborough RUFC are delighted that this is happening and that there is a stronger link with the schools of Gainsborough and The Rugby Club, we will be doing all that we can to strengthen this link and work with the schools to develop young rugby players in Gainsborough. Andy Dean and Vernon Goude from the Rugby Club have qualified as coaches to train the youngsters and will be working with the teachers. We all look forward to following the progress of this development.
Alex Murphy is the Notts Lincs and Derby representative at the RFU he is supporting and assisting the club in all aspects of its development, all of this can only be good for the game of Rugby in Gainsborough.
It is the expectation that the youngsters will get a couple of local fixtures in this season and be prepared for regular coaching and fixtures in season 2009 / 10.
Any youngster who would like to come to the sessions is most welcome they are held tuesday evenings 5.30 at the Castle Hills site, for further information contact Tony Goude 01724 763825.
