Gainsborough All Blacks 37 Lincoln 3
Gainsborough Rugby Club continue to impress and especially on Saturday when another good result left the club feeling good about its future and welcomed the form of the youngsters in the side who are now starting to look like a formidable unit and hopefully experience will be gained and turn them into a first class rugby team. Saturday saw impressive performances from Grant Bell, Elliot Humphrey, Daniel Dawson and Tom Bond all young players working hard and putting in sound performances for the side.
Local rivals Lincoln were well up for this game and held the hosts for the first 10 minutes both sides testing each other out with breaks from scrums and lineout, Gainsborough dominated the line out, Grant Bell is a big advantage to any side and the props took him high above the opposition to steal ball and set his backs running. The deadlock was broken on 10 minutes and it was fitting that Bell scored the try covering ground very quickly to touch down, Shaun Parker converted. Lincoln came back and put in some big tackles when Gainsborough attacked, Gainsborough next score was the result of one of those tackles that was deemed high, a penalty was awarded to the home side and again Shaun Parker duly converted. The home side took all opportunities and were playing very well, Dawson continued to run at the opposition and was rewarded with a try and captain Vernon Goude scored following a 22 Meter run down the blind side at half time The All Blacks were 25 points to 0 in front.…
Mikey Collins replaced Mark Warterland after the break, Gainsborough continued to dominate the game Bell was in excellent form and again crossed the line only for the referee to disallow due to an infringement, over enthusiastic explanation of the offence saw Bell go to the bin for 10 minutes. The home side were not going to be put off with this setback and went on to score 2 more tries one from Humphreys and one from Albert parker, Shaun Parker converted one to make the final Gainsborough tally 37 points.
The All Blacks brought Andre Russell and Aaron Dawson on in the second half, it is good to see Aaron continue is rehabilitation and come back to full fitness. Lincoln scored a consolation drop goal to give them 3 points in the match, Tom Bond tried to extend the lead with a superb run down the left touch line only to be stopped a few yards short of a try. At the final whistle Grant Bell was awarded the man of the match award.
