Saturday 30th January 10 Gainsborough All Blacks 0 V Grimsby 2nd XV 32
Gainsborough went down 32- 0 against a very well organised Grimsby side but throughout the game the home side were a better side than the score line suggests. Following the same trend as last week the All Blacks dominated in the scrum but were unable to turn forward domination and strength into points.
The first 20 minutes of the game were dominated by the visitors but Gainsborough defended resolutely, eventually the pressure told and Grimsby crossed the line. Grimsby scored 3 tries one of which was converted to lead 17- 0 at half time, but at no time was the home side out of this match, good tackling by Chadwick and Kyle Dean as well as good attacking running from Ricky Guilliet, Padge and Mark Waterland gave the home side hope.
The second half saw Gainsborough start in determined fashion, Veteran props Andre Russell and Rob Morley continued to dominate their opposite numbers, thoughtful play from the half backs, Ian Ross guided the pack and gave some good ball to Tom Parkinson who kicked Grimsby back into their own half at every opportunity. Despite all this work the home side could not break the visitors defence and the Grimsby response was to wear the home side down, they scored 15 points in the last 20 minutes and a disappointing score line ended up on the All Blacks fixture card.
Man of the match this week was Ricky Guilliet who had an excellent game in the centres, all of the All Blacks should take heart from their performance, they are certainly not having any luck on the field and injuries are preventing a settled side taking the field.
Next week Gainsborough makes the short trip to Scunthorpe to play the 5ths hoping for a repeat of the win they achieved when Scunthorpe visited Gainsborough earlier in the season.
