Lincoln 12 Gainsborough All Blacks 47
Gainsborough made the short trip to local rivals Lincoln and came away with a resounding win and a big confidence booster before next weeks Paul Bell Memorial Match and NLD Cup game against Skegness.
It was important for the All Blacks to perform well prior to what will be the most competitive match of the season next week and the All Blacks did that in fine style.
Conditions for open and expansive rugby was difficult, it was windy and cold with out bursts of rain, irrespective of conditions Gainsborough took the game to Lincoln at every opportunity and were soon camped near the Lincoln try line, from all the pressure the Lincoln side gave away two penalties in quick succession, from the second of these, a Gainsborough planned move saw prop Dan Hickson crash over for a try that Parker converted and the All Blacks were 7 points to 0 in front.
Throughout all the game Gainsborough were happy to run the ball, straight from the re start Dawson collected the kick and ran back at the opposition good bullish runs from Bond every time he had the ball in his hands put the Lincoln defence on the back foot, they did not like being attacked and despite having the advantage of the elements only got out of their own half with breakaway moves.
It was from one of these breakaway moves that they attacked the Gainsborough try line they camped within 15 Metres for several phases of play before going over for a converted try in the 15th Minute to make the scores level.
The game was even for the next 5 minutes, Gainsborough were not having things their own way and in the 20th minute following a number of missed tackles Lincoln went in front 12 – 7 this spurred the All Blacks and was to be the home sides last points.
The last period of the second half was dominated by the All Blacks a tapped penalty was run by Goude , taken into contact ball fed out to the backs for Elliot Humphreys to barge his way over the line, Parker converted 14 – 12 to Gainsborough. On 29 minutes great work by Hildred and sound support running from Dodsley resulted in a kick ahead for Bond before Vernon Goude went over for the try and the half time score was 19 – 12 to the All Blacks
The second half saw the experienced Wood take over from Dodsley and Grant Bell came on for Darren Gagg, Gainsborough were now playing with the elements, Shaun Parker was playing well making good breaks and his kicking out of hand was very good, this pressure saw Goude get his second try of the game duly converted by Parker making the lead 26 – 12. Gainsborough continued to make notable runs throughout the game and when they were attacked defence was always covered by Humphreys or Hulley who both worked well in the centres before Mickey Collins came on for Hulley. Collins also ran hard and often at the opposition and he is another player who rarely misses a tackle.
Mark Hildred had an exceptional game made a lot of ground and his hard work was rewarded with a try again converted by Parker 33 – 12 The next score Dodsley was to benefit from an Hildred break and he powered over for a try converted by Parker, The side was now in full flow and desperately looking for 50 points, Elliot scored his second try of the gamer and Parker converted to make the final score 47 – 12.
Man of the match this week went to mark Hildred who looked to be back to his best having returned from injury.
