Gainsborough Rugby Club entertained Horncastle on Saturday for their last league game of the season. Despite some confusion in relation to the fixture the game kicked off a little late but this was not to concern the recent good form of the All Blacks who went on to complete a League Double over the Horncastle side. Gainsborough won the match by 26 points to 12.
This result was the final part of the season prior to the show piece Presidents game to be played next Sunday. Whilst the season got off to a very slow start the players are to be commended for their attitude and subsequent results in the latter part of this 2006 - 7 season, the commitment showed that the club can look forward to next year in the hope that they can make a real impact on this league next term.
The final part of the season is to be played out next Sunday 29th April when the All Blacks will take on the Presidents team. The match will kick off at 12.30 at the Castle Hills School and will be a Memorial Match to the memory of a Great Gainsborough Rugby stalwart, Mick Foot. Both teams will be playing for the Mick Foot trophy. The club are expecting some excellent rugby to be shown on the day with guests and ex players turning out to play some cavalier rugby to entertain the town.
After the game the club are to go to Libertys where the end of season presentations will take place at 3.30. Everyone is welcome to attend both the match and the presentations.
Any ex players who still want to be involved in the match must contact Tony Goude as soon as possible and prior to the game on 01724 763825, the same number and contact for any further details in relation to the game, It is hoped that there will be a good turn out of Gainsborough people to watch and support their local players.
