Gainsborough 0 Worksop 59
If you had wanted to arrange a more difficult start to the season than games against Keyworth and Worksop for the 1st competitive matches of the season it would have been difficult knowing where to start. Given that this is what we have been left with then it is no surprise that the first two games have resulted in heavy defeats.
The visit of Worksop for the first home game of the season brought exactly what the All Blacks expected, a well organised team from a bigger club with greater resources than Gainsborough.
The opposition having an advantage has never bothered Gainsborough sides and the All Blacks attitude to this game was no exception, Worksop laid down their markers and attacked at every opportunity it took them 13 minutes to score their first points, the all blacks then set about defending for the remainder of the 80 minute match. Try's where scored at a steady pace the visitors to the Castle Hills School were well organised and coached, they defended well when the All Blacks got attacks together and did very well to stop the home side from scoring.
Gainsborough had many positives in this game, good loose play from Spenny, excellent tackling and catching of the high ball from Wayne Sendall, the tireless work rate of Shane Ellis, the line out catching of Mark Ellis and the whole hearted commitment of Shaun and Albert Parker. The whole team deserved a mention in this report for their commitment.
Other positives were the late appearance of Tim Tanner who did not play last season coming on for the last 20 minutes of the game along with a first appearance of the season of Gareth Wood.
Well done all you Gainsborough players, I would be amazed if the league system gives us a harder fixture than this in the season to come apart from of course - see below for fixtures to Christmas.
