Scunthorpe 6th 0 Gainsborough All Blacks 32
Gainsborough continues to improve and re build and the club from a playing perspective is certainly on the right lines.
A strong squad made the short trip to local rivals Scunthorpe and came away with a superb victory. Following the indiscipline of the previous week it was good to see a tidy team performance that produced points and a defence that did not concede any, this is a rare occurrence in rugby union at any level. The Gainsborough side were 19 – 0 up at half time and continued their dominance into the 2nd half and duly completed the game winners by 32 points. Elliot Humphries scored two tries along with one each from Daniel Dodsley, Daniel Chadwick and just to show that the youngsters are not the only ones who can score tries the more mature Gareth Wood scored the other one. Shaun Parker converted two of the tries and kicked a penalty to complete the scoring. Man of the match for this game went to Terry Wright who as worked really hard on his all round game and is now giving consistent performances.
This week sees the Gainsborough club continue its recruitment and its involvement with Go Play Rugby; players are meeting in Marshals Yard at 10.30 on Saturday morning to give out leaflets and inform the general public about the game in Gainsborough, this is followed by a game against Ollerton 2nds at Ollerton with a 3.00 pm kick off and all players are asked to meet at 1.15 at the leisure centre to travel to the game.
After the match the club are to return to The Peacock to celebrate the 50th Birthday of Club stalwart Shane Ellis, still playing as he has been doing for the same club for 34 years now, quite a performance and well done Shane.
