Gainsborough All Blacks 34 Scunthorpe VI 14
Gainsborough Rugby Club put on their best performance of the season so far on Saturday to send their local visitors back to Scunthorpe with a defeat something that doesn't happen very often.
Gainsborough total dominance was crowned with 4 tries from Man of the match Chris Synnott along with a try for debutante Aaron Dawson along with another for Gareth Wood who captained the side on the day.
The game kicked off at a good pace both sides testing each other out and for the first 20 minutes defences dominated, following a good period of recycled ball for the home side a penalty was awarded, ball kicked to the corner and the try scored from the resultant line out.
As so often happens this sparked a big effort from the visitors and they soon stormed back against the All Blacks to reply with a converted try to take the lead 7 – 5 Scunthorpe held this lead until shortly before half time when Synnott went over for his second try to make the half time score 10 – 7 Gainsborough
The home side took the game to the visitors in the second half early into the game Mick Williams broke from the scrum linked up with Aaron Dawson who took his try well, Dawson showing good skills all the way through the second half, I am sure this is the first of many future tries for him.
Scunthorpe always looked the fitter of the two sides but did not have an answer for the free scoring All Blacks, Chris Synnott went over for his third try before the visitors did manage a breakaway score, converted try to make the score 22 – 14.
Mark Ellis who had worked with his usual reliable style all through the game fed Gareth Wood for another Gainsborough score before Synnott ended the days play with his and Gainsborough final score.
Training on Tuesday nights continue to be 6.30 at Castle Hills School, the club are still looking to recruitment of additional players.
Next Saturday sees the visit of Retford, all players are asked to report to the ground at 1.00pm for a pre match training session that will be led by Harry Sampson – please let Vernon Goude 01724 334433 know of your availability for this fixture.
