Horncastle 47 Gainsborough All Blacks 13
Another sound performance by the All Blacks a game that was much better than the score line suggests. Shaun Parker scored all 13 points but despite a very good game being played by the fly half the man of the match award went to Mike Collins for a superb display at outside centre.
All of the Gainsborough side played well and it is always difficult singling players out but the usual style with the All Blacks is that the stars are in the forwards, not so these days, Tom Bond is finding his feet at Full Back, Elliot Humphries is settling into the centres and Dan Chadwick looks a try scorer every time he gets his hands on the ball.
The travellers warmed up prior to the game but things didn’t go too well when Nathan Mitchell had to sit out the pre match fitness having been caught by a stray elbow and blood poured from his nose.
Horncastle kicked off in very determined mood, last time Gainsborough visited they had scored 70 points and expected another field day today, we did not disappoint the hosts and gifted them two tries in the first 8 minutes to go 12 nil down in double quick time. Parkers first points in reply came from a quick tap penalty that he duly converted and things then stayed even until the 39th minute when Horncastle scored 3 points from a penalty and Gainsborough replied on the stroke of half time with a 3 point penalty of their own.
The second half saw some of the customary changes, an injury to Chadwick brought Casey onto the field Gainsborough started this session well they were awarded a penalty and Parker kicked the three points, the All Blacks were back in the game at 15 – 13.
Sadly they were our last points Horncastle stronger forwards dominated and there was very little ball for Gainsborough, there is no doubt the strong tackling of Collins, Humphries and debutant Daniel Dawson kept the score respectable, but the hosts did score a steady stream of tries to make the final score 47 – 13. Well done to Nathan Mitchell for the organisation of the team this week it all ran like clockwork in the captain’s absence.
The game this week is away at Boston 3.00pm kick off; additions to this week’s squad include captain Vernon Goude, Andy Dean and Shane Ellis, the experience of these three will be needed for the trip to Boston. All players are asked to meet at 12.30 at the Leisure Centre.
