Go Play Rugby
What is it?
The Rugby World Cup 2007 will give Rugby Union a massive profile and we want to help your club take advantage of this. The RFU in partnership with EssexRugby are planning the biggest ever player recruitment campaign.
An innovative approach will be used to strengthen our game by growing the number of adult social players. Clubs taking part in the campaign will receive unprecedented national and local support. Professional marketing methods and materials, successfully tested at a pilot group of rugby clubs, will be used nationally.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lead this campaign in our clubs working closely in partnership with the CB Campaign leader, Gerry Mansfield, the Constituent Body Management team of volunteers and RFU staff. The Club Recruitment Team will commit themselves to a planning period from April to July, followed by an intense recruitment programme from August to October. Who is required:
Campaign Leader -
will plan and lead the delivery of an adult player recruitment campaign. They will recruit, deploy and manage the Club Campaign Team. They will be someone who has the influence and ability to get the whole club fully involved. They will also plan for the integration of new players into the club to retain the new recruits. will plan and deliver specific events and activities to recruit adult players. They will be ‘go getters’ who will be at club training nights and in the bar enlisting the help of as many current club members as possible. They will be distributing campaign materials around the local area and negotiating with local partners to enhance specific recruitment events.
Recruiters -

Integrators -
will probably be lower team captains or team managers. They will make sure that the new players are integrated effectively and found a game as soon as possible. In essence they are the ‘welcoming committee’ for new recruits. Enthusiasm and commitment coupled with the ability to work successfully with other volunteers, is vital. Good people skills, tenacity, imagination and a sense of humour will all help make the campaign a success! At least one member of the team will need to be comfortable using the web and it will be most effective if all the members can be contacted by email.
If you want to be part of this unique project and create a positive legacy for future generations to enjoy our sport contact Gerry or our Hon Sec Ivor Smith to register your campaign team on RugbyFirst. Registered campaign team members will receive information and training about the campaign in April 2007.
