Latest Result: E Counites 10 Hertfordshire 14

Counties learned a harsh rugby lesson on Sunday when they succumbed to a side with far less posession and perhaps also talent, but with more desire and determination to win the game!
Counties could point to 2 clear tries not been awarded but in fairness they squandered too many opportunities to claim the victory! The home side began brightly and were soon camped in the visitors 22. Harvey and Webber were tormenting their opposite numbers in the scrum whilst Baxter once again was excelling in the line out. However, good defensive work from the Hertfordshire back row kept them in the game.
A series of short range efforts were denied before Andy Jones crashed his way over - only for the referee to claim he was unsighted. No matter, it seemed inevitable that Counties would score... it wasn't to pan out like that! Hogan made a clean break and raced into the Herts 22 but then his optimistic pass outwide was easily intercepted by James Littlejohn who raced 70 metres downfield before supplying Stride the easy stroll in by the posts.
Slowly Counties fought their way back and a break by fly half Davies - Horne set up a try. The ball was kept moving with good support runners and when the cover defence ran out, Seb Aguilar was able to waltz over. Half time 7 all.
The second half sadly did not improve much for Counties. New introductions to the Herts front row saw them gain parity and Goring began to influence the lineout for the Greens. Herts were often pinned back but there discipline and defence was superb. Gill, Herbert and Day tried their best to counter attack from deep but too often players got isolated or turned over in the contact area.
Hogan landed a penalty to nudge Counties ahead but the lead was short lived as a good break in midfield was fed on to the supporting Dewhurst to score on the left. Gill and Day combined well to create what seemed like a perfectly good try for Davies Horne but the move was brought back for an alleged forward pass. Counties had other opportunites to create pressure but vital kicks missed touch allowing Herts to escape.
Precious once again led his troops by example with a tireless display at 7 but too often the Couties forwards were thwarted at the brake down. Former Counties player Tom Knights and Man of the Match Bry Walsh stole or slowed the ball down to such an extent that the game lost its shape and Counties became increasingly frustrated and ragged in their approach. Herts closed out the final few minutes of the game to take the victory and spoil the unbeaten record of this squad.
Sadly the result was not how the squad wanted to finish but they can still reflect on a playing record the envy of many. Victories at Under 17s v Yorkshire and Hampshire are no mean achievements and the performances against Essex and Middlesex in partcular will live long in the memory!
From Chris, Dave, Mark and myslef, thanks for all your efforts... it has been a pleasure and a priviledge to have known you!
