Swanage & Wareham RFC are benefiting from funds which have enabled the club to make massive improvements to their ground.
The Dorset side have been awarded a Community Club Development Programme grant award of £75,000 ,
a Rugby Football Foundation loan of £50,000 and a Groundmatch grant of £6000.
Swanage & Wareham RFC have used the awards to make significant improvements to their changing areas.
They have added an extension to their existing building which now houses three RFU specified changing rooms, all of which are en-suite.
There is also a new boiler room.
All this is being officially unveiled on October 13th, the day of the Swans’ EDF Energy National Trophy tie against Rosslyn Park.
The club have deemed these improvements necessary partly because of their vast club programme.
The club currently runs four senior male teams, an occasional Vets’ side, a female squad and can boast 500 members and 220 children.
The club identified the need for updated changing facilities in order to realise their sports development plans
which included managing to accommodate the growing numbers of juniors interested in playing rugby.
The RFU’s Head of Funding and Facilities Simon Winman said: “We are delighted to make this award to Swanage & Wareham RFC.
The club is key to the local and regional development of rugby union and we are committed to making sure
that the club continues to provide increased opportunities for all who wish to participate in rugby.
“Now in our fourth year of working with Sport England, the partnership is continuing to be a success.
Investments like this means the game continues to grow and Swanage and Wareham RFC are an example of this.
Investments like this are helping the RFU achieve its vision of more people enjoying their rugby at better clubs that are open to all.”
The RFF is a charitable trust funded via the RFU’s Community Capital Fund which awards interest free loans of up to £100,000
and grants of £6,000 to clubs.
All clubs at level 5 and below in the English Clubs Rugby Union Championship are eligible to apply to the fund for a loan and grant.
Clubs at level 4 are eligible to apply for a loan only.
The CCDP has been developed by Sport England and the government to forge stronger links
between the country’s rugby clubs and their local communities.
The RFU is tasked with distributing the funds, which will help to provide quality coaching and increase participation in rugby.
