PROP IDOL – ‘THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT BIG THING’
Dorset and Wiltshire RFU are delighted to announce the inaugral winners of our search for 'The Next Big Thing' through the Prop Idol competition.
Sherbourne Pink Antonia Mansfield recovered from 2nd in her heat to claim victory with 414 points (a 21 point win) in the girls under 15's.
Bournemouth Qualifier Tyler Adams claimed the under 14's boy's title by 5 points with 429 points. Tyler dominated the scrum competition on the night with a score of 200 out of 250.
Top Scorer on the night was Corsham under 13 James Catlin who followed up his impressive 503 in the trials with a 498 to claim victory by 95 points.
The coach education aspect was headed up by Wiltshire Community Rugby Coach and ex-England U21 Loose Head Prop Alan Low who has been delighted with the quality of the next generation of Prop coming through. With Dorset and Wilts supplying 3 props to the South West this year through Jack Green, Rupert Freestone (both 18's) and Tom Dunn (16's) the continued chances of success look very bright indeed.
A road show evening consisted of 4 aspects; Coach & Player Development Session, Parent & Teacher Workshop, Prop Idol Competition, Award Ceremony.
The competition aspect involved tests on:
1. Speed. This test simply measures the time taken to sprint 40m in a straight line.
2. Agility. This test measures the ability to accelerate and decelerate quickly whilst changing direction.
3. Muscular Endurance. This measures the ability of a muscle or groups of muscles to work for prolonged periods without any undue fatigue.
4. Power. This test measures explosive power.
5. Lineout Relay. This explosive power functional test measures the players ability to transfer lateral speed to vertical speed
6. Technique. This test measures the ability to apply power using effective technique.
