Latest Input: Gentlemen, a great match against Somerset. I only managed to see the last 10 minutes, but from that it was obvious that everyone was a credit to the Twin Counties. What was also obvious from chatting to spectators was that the game was played with a standard of sportsmanship that was in the best traditions of this fine sport.....very well done. When I get details, I will post a slightly more detailed report.
To the 11th of Apr: I ask that those players that heve said they were going to be available to play, still are (to allow for cup matches etc). This is so the coaching team can get team sheets ready. The availability table now shows those that have "replied" in the final column. Please check this to ensure that I have the up to date details. If I do not get a response within the week, we will assume you cannot make it.

D&W U17 Squad
The purpose of the U17s squad is to provide a building block between the U16 and U18 squads. The jump between the key squads of U16 and U18 is huge, in all aspects: Skill levels, pace, physicallity, size....the list is endless. This jump can be a shock to many. The U17s provides a vital bridge between the age groups. Not only does it allow players to continue developing, it allows players to continue building a county background (as well as allowing late developers to "appear") and most importantly prepares players for the U18 trials. This is a tested process that has shown its value by virtue of the number of U17 players that are successful at U18. It will also present an opportunity for the players to mature as the emphasis will swing to the players being more responsible for communication with the coaching staff, managing availilbilty and ensuring they are match fit (by sometimes not playing in club/school matches). This maturing process is very important as it is taken for granted at U18 level and beyond.

Player Availability and Attendance
Below is the Player Availability and Attendance table. The availability is as declared by the players. Green means available, red means unavailable and an empty white box means that you have not told the manager or are unsure. Those with white boxes need to find out avalability and pass that information to the manager. I cannot over-emphasise the importance of this table. With possibly 4 matches and everyone looking for a start, the teams will be picked using the information given to the manager. If you declare availability, this means you have positively checked the date is clear and, barring unforeseen circumstances, you will be able to play. This is a planning tool only, we still require confirmation that you are available when team sheets are published, thus allowing for those unforeseen circumstances. Also included is a column stating whether the D&W form has been completed. Those that have not completed this form WILL NOT be allowed to participate in matches (therefore complete it and bring it to the next training).

D&W Vs Somerset 17th March - Keynsham RFC
(Directions)
The following players will make up the squad to play Somerset on the 17th March at Keynsham RFC. Arrive by 1830 for warm-up/training from 1845. The match will start at 1945. Somerset have put on food so ties/shirts required for after the game. There will be some quick presentations during the meal. As always, confirmation (or otherwise) by email or Txt. Should you be injured over the weekend, let me know straight away (I am away from monday) so that replacements can be found. For those not listed in the squad, this is in no way a reflection of you as players. This is purely down to numbers and later availibility.

Result: D&W win 24 - 8 (If my memory serves me right!)
Gentlemen, for a squad that had one training session under your belts, the coaches were impressed by the commitment and general skill levels of all players. When you consider that you were playing for the first time as a team against a Bishops side that have had many years together, and are always fired up for this fixture, the win was impressive indeed. Well done!
Having said that, the evening has allowed the coaches to identify areas for development and look for the same commitment, shown during the match, at the next training session. Somerset next!
Training Match Vs Bishops - Salisbury RFC 3rd March

There will be no food or presentations after the games and therefore shirt/ties will NOT be required. Turn up at SRFC by 1800 for a quick change so that training ASAP prior to the first KO at 1900. The session should end by 2030.
The following players have indicated that they are unavailable:James, Mansfield and Winterton. All other players are expected and as always a txt/email to the manager confirming that you will be there is required for team planning.

Registration Process
On entering the school theatre, you will see signs corresponding to positions. Under those signs will be bibs, which are specific to your chosen position (ie nominated position as in the table of invited players). Pick up one bib from your position pile, and go to the registration table (it will have a computer on it). Give the person at the registration your name, confirm your nominated position and give bib number/colour. After you have registered, please leave the theatre so that others can register (the changing rooms will be open). Be back outside the theatre, ready to play, by 10:20 so that briefing can start.
Players need to arrive BY 10:00 so that registration can start at 10:00 sharp. Neutral playing kit only, no club/school colours (including socks). It is strongly advised to also bring suitable wet weather training kit. Gum Shields are a requirement as full contact matches are scheduled for the afternoon session. Food will not be provided, please ensure the players are supplied with an appropriate lunch for what will be a long demanding day.
Only nominated players (as named on this web page) are eligable for the trials. If a player feels he has been overlooked, contact the team manager for further consideration. Non-nominated players should not turn up to the trial, this will prevent the embarressment of being turned away.
If a player is unfit for the trial through injury, the team manager should be contacted before the trial. It is strongly advised that the injured player should turn up at the venue.
