Roping off pitches at all games-(5th January 2007)
After discussion at the main laws meeting in November '06, an answer has been given:
The roping off of pitches has been discussed ad nauseam at recent meetings. The view is that pitches should be roped off at all matches. A margin of 5 metres is about correct and only those directing the match, i.e. touch judges, referee should be within this area. As the arbitrator the referee has the responsibility to ensure that these requirements are met. He should not commence a game until these requirements are met. This is a health and safety matter and it f
does not matter which class of game is being played, league/cup or friendly.
I hope this clarifies the matter.
