Press Release:
Cranleigh RFC announced to a packed meeting on Sunday its associate club status with NEC Harlequins. The Zurich premiership side announced that:
"NEC Harlequins are delighted to join forces with Cranleigh RFC to help develop rugby in the Cranleigh area. The hard work of a dedicated team of volunteers should be applauded and will ensure the long-term future of the club. The partnership with Quins is a win, win for both organisations; Quins coaching sessions have been successful, hopefully benefiting players and coaches alike. We have also welcomed various age groups to the Stoop for coaching and to watch Quins first team games. Taking the partnership forward for next season and beyond, we hope to see Cranleigh Minis competing in Richmond and Twickenham Times Curtain Raiser Cup and perhaps even find the next Greenwood or Leonard in the process!
Finally, all at NEC Harlequins wish Cranleigh RFC Development Squad the best of luck, and are sure that you will represent your club with a fierce determination, whilst remembering the core values of our great game."
The local club, where England second row, Simon Shaw, started his playing career, is in the final stages of the RFU Seal of Approval Accreditation Scheme and has high hopes for the new Development Squad. Club Chairman, Nigel Spong, confirmed "We see the academy as securing the future of Cranleigh RFC, as well as providing a clear pathway from the Junior to Senior game".
