Hertfordshire 7s Winners
The day had showers forecasted, however the sun shone brightly on the Cramberleigh U14 7s side as they scored an impressive 178 points for, with 5 against in 4 matches.
Following for the previous weeks win at the London & SE 7s, Cramberleigh continued in a rich vein of form with an opening win against Aylesford / Milton Keynes 54 - 0.
After a long wait to their second match Cramberleigh came out against Letchworth and in a match shortened by injury to a Letchworth player the final score being 40 - 0.
What we thought was a long wait for the second match turned into an even longer wait for the semi final against Worcester. Worcester evidently fancying their chances came to practise their kicking almost in the Cramberleigh camp.
As the match started, Cramberleigh played with a ferocity and determination not normally seen in a 7s competition with the girls dominating in the tight, lose and finishing off with superb backs moves. 42 - 0 being the final score.
The final was against 'Basford' a Basildon / Rochford combination who like Worcester had not been beaten all season. A momentry glitch by Cramberleigh gave Basford a breakaway try which they failed to convert.
This was the signal for Cramberleigh to crank it up with another 42 points giving the final score of 42 - 5. After the game their manager said that our girls should be DNA tested as he suspected they were robots!
Congratulations to all the girls who produced some delightful running rugby along with some hard nosed forward play when required.
Many thanks to the coaches Charlie, John & Steve for their sterling work on the day.
