Cockermouth RUFC vs. Workington Steelers
28th March 2009
Cockermouth started the game with a high level of intensity and immediately put Steelers on the back foot, coming close to scoring on a couple of occassions in the first 5 minutes. However it was Steelers who scored first after they worked their way up field to score a penalty. Shortly after Cockermouth took the lead when Luke Reeson pounced, after an attempted clearance kick was charged down, to score near the posts and Ross Maguire converted.
Steelers continued to work hard and took a half time lead with 2 further penalties. Cockermouth regained the lead with another Maguire penalty and a second converted try from Reeson to make the scores 17-9. Steelers kept in touch with another penalty but on 60 minutes Cieron Williams extended Cockermouth's lead when he drove over from close range.
Steelers continued their good form and made life difficult for Cockermouth but the home side upped the pace of the game and moved the ball wide with efficiency. This had the desired effect and in the last 5 minutes the visitors' tired legs couldn't prevent tries by Wayne Kavannah and Rob Hogan. Maguire converted with the last kick of the game to give Cockermouth a 34-12 victory.
