This match started with a strong battle in the centre of the field which eventually saw Keenan Ling break through but found himself isolated on the race for the try line. Without support Cockermouth conceded possession and Egremont ran the ball back, unopposed to score in the corner.
From the restart Cockermouth applied considerable pressure to the Egremont defense, particularly scrum half Freya McDowell, but the ball was knocked on and before the half time whistle Egremont ran in their second try unopposed.
In the second half there was more of the same from Cockermouth with Harry Tyrell putting in Sterling work to prevent Egremont incursions and Freya McDowell constantly snapping around the fringes. However Egremont scored first following a missed tackle and a break away. Egremont scored again shortly after the re-start with another missed tackle and breakaway. The visitors continued to push Egremont back toward their own line but a turnover allowed Egremont to carry the ball the length of the field with two passes to score again.
Cockermouth's heads did not drop and following a controlled maul Keenan Ling came away with the ball and drove toward the try line. Stopped short Ling was able to pass out to William Bell who, despite the attentions of three defenders, forced his way over for Cockermouth to score. Unfortunately the hard work was undone when from the re-start Egremont ran the ball forward and slipped the tackle to run the ball in for their sixth and final try.
As the game drew to a close Cockermouth produced a good passage of play with the forwards keeping the ball rolling toward the Egremont try line and the backs supporting the move when needed. This nearly saw Keenan Ling over the line but he was held up by the Egremont defense. The match finished at 6 - 1 to the home side but with a little concentration in defense and at re-starts the score line could have been very different.
