Egremont 31 Cockermouth 0
Egremont ran out comfortable winners in this lower end of the table clash. The home team had many players unavailable and Cockermouth travelled with only one replacement, both teams were bolstered however through Moresby having a free Saturday and players looking for a run out. Cockermouth elected to play against the wind and having played poorly throughout the first half were quite optimistic to go into the break 14-0 down through two converted tries.
Cockermouth played better in the second half and began to secure more possession through a solid scrum and better organised lineout. Cockermouth were unlucky not to score when a driving maul took them into the Egremont in-goal, however the referee adjudged that the ball had not been grounded. A real plus for Cockermouth was seeing Alan Denwood making his debut in the centre, giving a strong performance in both attack and defence, earning him Cockermouth’s man of the match award.
As the match wore on it was the key players at open side flanker, scrum half and fly half for Egremont who had a huge influence on the game. They went on to be instrumental in the scoring of three further tries and one conversion leaving Cockermouth on the wrong end of a 31-0 defeat.
