Carlisle vs Cockermouth
5th October 2008
After torrential rain for the previous day, a bright and warm morning greeted the Cockermouth squad and their assorted parents as they arrived at Carlisle RUFC for the first visit by most, if not all, of the Cockermouth contingent.
.
The format of the morning was to be a series of short games to allow all the players from both squads to compete over the morning.
Game 1
The first game saw Kieran Wilson running strongly at the right flank of the Carlisle team and making good ground before being put into touch by the defenders. The resulting line out was won by Carlisle with good pressure applied by Cockermouth in open play. A penalty was awarded for handling the ball in the ruck, following which Carlisle forced Cockermouth back into their own half and a further line out was conceded allowing Carlisle to force an opening and score. From the restart there was again good pressure by Cockermouth, but possession was lost and John Irving made a try saving tackle. Further open play ensued with the Carlisle players again crossing the line for a further try.

Game 2
This game saw more aggressive play from the start by Cockermouth with good running and an early try for Jack Wilson. From the restart the ball was won and Matthew Shepherd ran deep into the Carlisle half before being brought to ground. Carlisle had loaned two forwards to the Cockermouth side and one of these players was unfortunate to score against his home club after strong pressure from the forwards on the left side of the Carlisle defence. Defence was again called for after the restart and Cockermouth showed good tackling technique with Jack Wilson tackling well, followed by an equally good tackle by Ethan Williams. A try was awarded after a long run by a Carlisle player and the final score reflected a good, even game.

The forwards worked well together to protect possession and gained territory and Kieran Wilson powered over to seal a victory.
