Ernie Tweedy Sevens (2008)
This year's Ernie Tweedy Sevens competition took place on Sunday 4th May 2008. Six teams arrived on the day - Brightlingsea, Clacton 'A', Clacton 'B', Ernie Tweedy Invitation Seven [ET's], Old Brentwoods and Rascals [Colchester]. The weather had brightened up over the week, and the competion was played in sunshine, leaving one or two sunburnt faces.
Once again, the format was a 'round-robin', with every team playing each other once on a single league basis. This gave every team five games, and a total of 15 matches altogether. There were a number of closely contested and even games, although it became apparent that the ET's looked a cut above the rest. It was then intended to play a Plate Final between third and fourth place in the league, with the first and second placed sides playing the Final.

Brightlingsea declined to play in the Plate Final, so that left ET's and Clacton 'A' to contest the main trophy. Clacton scored first, but ET's then ran in five tries to win comfortably, 35-5.
The Clacton club is indebted to referees Jonno Tatum and Ed Williamson, who refereed all the matches, and helped make the afternoon a success.
